A: New notebooks must first have the battery installed and the AC power adapter plugged in. To turn on the notebook, push
the red button located at the top of the keyboard.REMINDER: Your notebook modem should be connected to a working phone line when you first start the notebook.
Q: How do I charge the battery? How long does it take to charge?
A: To charge the notebook battery you need to plug in the AC power cord and adapter. The battery will charge fastest when the
system is powered off, but can also be charged while you are using your notebook. With the notebook powered off, the time
needed for a full charge is 3.5 hours. With the notebook in use, the average charge time will be approximately 4.5–5 hours.
The Windows operating system will display a prompt screen when the battery is running low.
Q: How long will the battery last?
A: Battery life is dependent on system usage. Life can vary from 2.5–3.5 hours during average to heavy use.
Q: How do I remove the battery?
A: Power off your notebook. Turn the notebook over and locate the battery module. Release the battery with the spring clip
and simultaneously lift battery out.
Q: Should the bottom of the notebook become warm?
A: The bottom of your notebook PC may get warm during use. The notebook is designed so the temperature should not become
uncomfortably warm if you’re using it on your lap, and the heat will not damage the notebook.
Q: Why does the fan in my notebook sometimes turn on and off?
A: The fan is designed to maintain optimal thermal performance inside the unit. The fan will turn on and off during
normal usage.
Q: How do I clean the display?
A: There are a variety of special cleaners that are safe for your screen. Use an approved cleaner and a soft cloth to gently wipe
off dust, fingerprints and other material.
Q: Where is the serial number?
A: The serial number is located on the bottom of the notebook.
Q: Will my notebook work outside the U.S.?
A: This notebook is only sold in the U.S. and Canada. Your notebook will function outside the U.S. and Canada with
country-speci.c requirements such as power cords, adapters, modems, and region-speci.c DVD titles.
Q: Can I upgrade my hard drive?
A: Your system hard drive is upgradable. For further information please contact customer support.
Q: How do I upgrade the memory?
A: First, disconnect the AC power by unplugging your power adapter. Turn over the laptop and remove the battery. Locate and
remove the memory panel. Insert the memory module into the open socket, and replace the memory panel.
NOTE: You should verify that your notebook has an open memory socket available (some models may not). If no open socket
is available, please contact customer support.
Q: How do I maximize my power management?
A: Your new notebook will be set to the default Power scheme of "Portable/Laptop" under Performance and Maintenance,
Power Options menu. You can optimize the way your computer utilizes power management functions in 2 ways.
You can change the default power scheme setting (ranging from Max Battery to Always On) or you can change the
individual power options for each of the monitor, hard drives and system standby.
Q: How do I use the Audio Control buttons on the front of my notebook?
A: Gently insert a CD or DVD into the CD/DVD slot and the loading mechanism will automatically engage to load the disc if your
system is powered on. To start your CD or DVD, press the audio control button on the front edge of your notebook. To eject the
disc, press the audio control button once to stop the disc and again to eject.
You can also use this drive to listen to music when your system is powered off. Slide the wireless/audio toggle on and wait for
the wireless/audio indicator to blink rapidly indicating that the drive is ready to accept media. After you insert a CD, the indicator
will glow steadily to indicate that it is ready to play (this will take several seconds). When the drive is ready, press the play
button on the audio control section of the notebook and use the audio control buttons on the front edge of the notebook to adjust
the volume. When a CD is playing, the indicator will blink slowly. To stop and eject, press the stop button once. The indicator
light will glow steadily when the drive has stopped (this may take a few seconds). You can then press eject.
NOTE: Slot-loading drives will accept only full-size CDs and DVDs. Mini-discs and other non-standard sizes and shapes will not
work in this drive and could cause damage.

A: This entertaining video has been developed as a simple way for you to get to know your new computer, especially if you are
not an experienced user yet! It will help you understand what you can do with it and give you tips on where to start. Take the time to
watch it once or twice, or use it in the future as a reference by surfing its menu.
Q: How do I uninstall the vpr Matrix video and its player from my hard drive?
A: Go to Start / control panel / add or remove programs. Then select the vpr Matrix presents 1.0 program and click on its
“change / remove” button. Both the video and its player will be removed. The vpr Matrix player is used for this video only so your other
video applications will still work if you uninstall it.
Q: I have deleted the video and player from my hard drive, how do I reinstall them?
A: The restore CD that you received in your box will restore your system but won’t reinstall the vpr Matrix presents 1.0 player nor
the video. You can call the Customer Support call center and request a restore DVD that will be shipped to you. All you will need to do is
put in the DVD in your DVD drive and follow instructions. Note that depending on the restore option you choose, the files or applications
you have created / installed since you bought your computer might be erased / uninstalled. Read instructions carefully!
Q: What can I use the vpr Matrix keyboard button for if I have uninstalled the vpr Matrix player and video?
A: The vpr Matrix keyboard button will be automatically redirected to access the web if you are set up with an
Internet Service Provider.
