1. Connecting Your Monitor
- Set the front of your monitor to face east if possible. Because of the effects of the earth’s magnetic field, the colors, bend and tilt of the screen image may change slightly according to the installation direction.
- Connect the power cord for your monitor to the power port on the back of the monitor. Plug the power cord for the monitor into a nearby outlet.
- Connect the end of the signal cable to your computer’s video port (video board, video card or graphics card).
2. Turning on Your Computer and Checking Your Monitor
- Turn on your monitor and then turn on your computer.
- Wait for the Windows screen to appear.
- When Windows has finished loading, check if the video adapter driver is installed (see instructions below). If the video adapter driver is not installed, contact the store or the video card manufacturer immediately.
How to check if you have the correct monitor driver installed Use the following path from the Start Menu in Windows to reach your Video Display Settings: Start › Settings › Control Panels › Display › Settings › Advanced › Adapter
If you see a message like “Unknown” or “Standard Display Adapter” in the adapter section, this means that the correct driver is not installed. The next section will tell you how to install the correct driver. Installation is a simple process that should take only a few minutes.
3. Installing the Correct Monitor Driver from CD
- Complete the previous steps.
- Insert the CD provided with the monitor into your computer’s CD-ROM drive. Please wait, as the CD driver installation program should start automatically.
- If the CD does not start automatically, click on ‘My Computer’ to find the drive that the monitor driver CD is in (usually drive D:/ or E:/). Double-click the CD drive to see the contents of the CD, then double-click D:/Monsetup.exe or E:/Monsetup.exe.
- When you see the initial screen of the CD, select the choice that describes your computer’s operating system.
Windows ME/98/95 Driver Installation of the monitor driver for Windows® ME/98/95 users Windows XP/2000 Driver Installation of the monitor driver for Windows® XP/2000 users
(If you don’t know what operating system your computer uses, consult your computer documentation).
- After you select your operating system you will be able to read the User Guide. This guide contains extensive information about installing, using and troubleshooting your monitor. Please refer to this guide if you should have any problems with your monitor. Save this CD in a safe place, as you may need it if you upgrade your PC or reinstall your monitor.
4. Setting the Resolution
The optimum resolution may differ according to the size of the monitor. For this 17-inch monitor, the optimum resolution is 1024 x 768.
To set the resolution, follow these steps: 1. Click Start › Settings › Control Panel. 2. Click the Display icon. 3. Click Settings. 4. Click Apply after adjusting the screen area. 5. Click OK. 6. Click Yes.
5. Setting the Refresh Rate
The higher you set the refresh rate, the better the resolution becomes. The maximum refresh rate can be limited by the capacity of your system. This monitor is specially designed for use with vpr Matrix computer systems. If you have a vpr Matrix computer, set your refresh rate at 100Hz. For other computer brands, the recommended refresh rate is between 75Hz–85Hz. An inappropriate refresh rate may fatigue your eyes.
To set the refresh rate: 1. Click Start › Settings › Control Panel. 2. Click the Display icon. 3. Click Settings. 4. Click Advanced. 5. Choose Adapter and select 100Hz (or 75–85Hz if not a VPR Matrix computer) in Refresh Rate. 6. Click Apply. 7. Click Yes. 8. Click OK. 9. Click Yes.
6. Application Brightness Control Setting
Application Brightness Control Setting refers to a new monitor feature that offers screen display quality twice as bright and clear than that of existing monitors. It provides display brightness and resolution most appropriate for viewing text, Internet or multimedia animations to satisfy varying user requirements.
The user may select one of three preconfigured brightness and resolution options by simply pressing one of the Application Brightness buttons located on the monitor's front. The three settings are designed for:
1) viewing text (Work) 2) playing games and surfing the Internet (Games) 3) viewing movies and photos (Movies!)
Application Brightness can also be used to improve the clarity of video or photographic images by increasing the brightness of a certain part of the monitor. Use this function in the on-screen display to enjoy clearer images when you watch TV, movies or photos.
7. Safety Instructions
Plugging In Do not use a damaged or loose plug, pull the plug out by the wire, or touch the plug with wet hands. Use only a properly grounded plug and outlet. Do not excessively bend the plug and cord or place heavy objects on it. Disconnect the plug from the outlet during storms or lightning or if the monitor is not used for a long period of time. Do not connect too many extension cords or plugs to an outlet. Do not try to move or turn the monitor by pulling on the wire or the signal cable.
Ventilation Do not cover the vents on the monitor cabinet. Put your monitor in a location with low humidity and a minimum of dust. Never insert anything into the monitor openings.
Placement and Handling of Your Monitor Place the monitor on a flat and stable surface. Set the monitor down carefully. Do not set the monitor face down on the glass screen. Do not use the monitor without the monitor stand. Do not place any heavy objects on the monitor. Do not use or store flammable substances near the monitor. Keep the monitor away from any magnetic fields.
Cleaning Do not spray detergent directly on the monitor. Use a very mild cleaner and soft cloth with the monitor case and screen—harsh detergents, alcohol-based cleaners or coarse cloth can cause damage to the plastic case and the anti-glare coating on the screen. Do not set liquids, chemicals or any small metal objects on the monitor.
Using Your Monitor Do not open the monitor case for any reason—there are no serviceable parts inside and there is a danger of electric shock even if the monitor is not plugged in. If your monitor does not operate normally or if there are any unusual sounds or smells coming from it, unplug it immediately and contact an authorized dealer or service center. For each hour of looking at the monitor, you should let your eyes rest for 5 minutes.
8. Troubleshooting Guide
Self-test Monitor Check If you are having a problem seeing images on your monitor, performing this check will help you determine if the problem is with your monitor or with your computer and video card.
1. Turn off both your computer and monitor. 2. Unplug the monitor cable from the back of your computer. 3. Turn on the monitor.
If you see a rectangle with “No Connection” and “Check Signal Cable” appears, along with three colored squares inside the rectangle, this means your monitor is functioning properly. If you are still having a problem after reconnecting your monitor to your computer, check your computer, signal cable and video card for problems.
